Amiga PD CharitywareAmiga PD is a charityware site - if you download any disk images you are encouraged to donate to our chosen charity - Mencap - at our justgiving page.
Suggested donations are £1 per disk image download as this was the cost of obtaining a disk back in the 1990s. Thank you. |
What is AmigaPd?
Amigapd is an attempt to recapture the spirit of the commodore amiga public domain scene. One of the joys of owning an amiga was ordering and playing the latest demos and games from the numerous public domain companies which used to advertise in the amiga magazines such as Amiga Format and Amiga Power.
This site aims to provide users of amiga with access to the disk images of public domain games and demos launched during the Amiga hey day of the 1980s and 1990s. Users downloading disk images do so at their own risk. AmigaPd will not be held responsible for any damage caused to your computer due to the download and use of these images. The images themselves come from recognised sources such as the origina 17 Bit and United PD Public Domain CDs.
It is important to remember Amiga emulation is NOT legal if you do not own an Amiga system yourself. However you can buy a legal, fully licensed Amiga emulation package from Cloanto called Amiga Forever.
What is Charityware?
The software on this website is free to download, however AmigaPd recommends a donation is made to Mencap which is the charity AmigaPd has chosen to support. This can be done by either making a donation directly to Mencap or by AmigaPds just giving page. The recommended donations are:
£1 per disk image
£10 per CD ISO
These prices are based on the cost you would have paid a PD Library in the 1990's to receive a disk or CD.
What is Public Domain Software?
Public Domain software is software that has been placed in the public domain. In other words it is software that has absolutely no ownership (such as copyright) of the intellectual property.
The majority of the DMS Disk files on this website are public domain software. The others are either shareware or former Licenceware.
What is Shareware Software?
Shareware software is software which can be used freely at first but if the user decides to keep the software then they should make a payment to the author. Details of how to contact the author are usually found on the title screens of the programs. AmigaPd will try to contact the authors of shareware software to confirm latest contact details and whether the software is shareware or now public domain software.
What is Licenceware Software?
Licenceware Software is software where the user has to pay the author to use the programs. There are some former Licenceware games on this site. These programs are from F1 Licenseware / 5th Dimension. This company ceased trading in 2001. The majority of the program authors have already released their programs to the public domain via AmiNet as free downloads. So long as you do not charges anything for these software items they can be distribute freely.
By downloading the F1 Licenseware / 5th Dimension games you agree to the conditions of the original program; No fees can be charged for distribution and the program author or F1 Licenseware has the right to suspend distribution at any time.
How long has the site been available?
This website was started on Thursday 21st October 2010 and is still under construction. The first task that I am working on is up loading 120 disk images of Assassin Game file and determining the top ten public domain platform games.
Future Plans?
The aim is to construct a top 100 Amiga Public Domain game list. There will be different game genres to vote on over the future months including Shoot em ups, arcade remakes and driving games. The current focus is on original ADFs / DMS from the 1980s - 90s but in the future there may be scope to expand the section on current Amiga OS4 public domain games.
